Quarantine, Isolation, and Workouts
Fluctuation. Distraction. Depression. Anxiety.
These are words I’ve heard throughout coaching in 2020. These are words I’ll continue to hear as many people are struggling with the curve ball that has been thrown at us all this year.
I’ve been worried, who hasn’t. I have a 17-month-old who cannot wear a mask yet, and I can’t quite figure out why so many people don’t take this seriously and wonder when we can get back to the outside things we enjoy doing. I am perfectly fine staying in because my only thought is about the health and safety of my family.
Some people are not fine, which in retrospect is, in fact – fine. What a messed up and really nerve wracking time. Many of you are essential workers – and have to expose yourself to some sort of public place every day. Many of you are working from home and it just is super strange to be on a virtual meeting nonstop, on top of having children home, and figuring out how being home all the time can actually be so challenging.
Many of my clients have had some bumps and bruises in their routine, which has left them feeling overwhelmed, stressed out, and disappointed in themselves. There is no need to beat yourself up more during this time, but you do want to make sure you make the most out of your time and continue to keep yourself feeling healthy and strong.
I’ve had a hard time with my back injury (being out for 8 weeks) and just finding motivation to stay on my schedule during this all, but what I know is that when I work out, I really feel strong, motivated, and back on track. Time to reflect on how you feel after you complete your workouts. Do you feel better? Do you feel like it was a waste of time? Do you hate it? Most of you I bet will say you feel great and wish that you could just stay on track with it consistently each week. Remind yourself how you feel after you finish your workout – after you hit ‘complete’ and let the endorphins sink in.
If there is one thing I can promise to my clients or anyone else struggling to stay on their fitness routine, especially right now, it is that you will always feel better if the alternative is sitting down and doing nothing. I can’t force anyone to hop up and do it, even though part of my coaching program is accountability – it’s more of me letting you know, I’m not giving up on you and I understand when you need some downtime, but I’ll continue to check in and look to find a date that we can pinpoint for you to get back to it.
Life happens, but one thing my clients have is longevity – many many have consistency each week, but even when they fall off a week or two or three, they always get back on. I’m super proud of my clients, they all started because they have struggled to start in the past, but even during the times where, pre-Mutch Fitness, they stopped and didn’t go back, they have come back every single time.
